Hand engraving on film

Posted on February 18, 2015 by Andrew Macfarlane

This is a beautiful short film showing the art of hand engraving

The film was produced by Goldsmiths' University students, Paulina Skorupska and Yasmin Salem for the Hand Engravers Association of Great Britain.

We mainly use hand engraving on all of our classic sterling silver cufflinks because the finished result is just so much more pleasing than machine engraving

Would you like to see a cufflink being made?

Here is the first stage of one of our initial cufflinks being prepared from the raw casting. As you can see it's a time consuming and laborious job but well worth getting right at the early stages as it's this hand work which allows the final finish to be so perfect. If the early preparation work isn't done properly then the final polishing would have to done much harder, resulting in a rounded and over-polished result. These are all made in our own workshop from solid hallmarked sterling silver
